Flood Insurance

from Orlando Insurance Center

Flood Insurance

With more catastrophic weather events every year, the risk of flooding is increasing in Florida, whether from coastal sea levels rising or inland storm surges. It’s essential that homes and businesses have flood insurance, which is not normally included in standard insurance policies.

There are several types of flood insurance available to our clients in the Orlando area, and we’re happy to talk to you about your options.

NFIP

The National Flood Insurance Program was developed by Congress in 1968 to protect property owners from the devastating costs of flood damage. If your community participates in NFIP, you can obtain flood insurance through this program, whether you are a renter, homeowner, or business owner. To participate in the program, communities must meet certain FEMA criteria that shows they have taken reasonable steps to reduce the risk of flooding.

Private Flood Insurance

Private insurance providers also carry flood insurance, which is separate from NFIP insurance. While typically a bit more expensive, this type of flood insurance often offers a wider range of protection with a higher limit on reimbursement.

Choosing a flood insurance policy can be confusing, so we’re happy to meet with you to explain the differences between private insurance and NFIP insurance and to help you select the best policy for your needs and budget.

At Orlando Insurance Center, we are independent agents with many insurance products at our disposal, so we can customize a policy to you, as well as educate you about how flood insurance works. For example, we can explain about the differences between ACV (actual cash value) and RCV (replacement cost value), both of which are used when calculating insurance payouts after a claim.

We’ll also help you understand what flood insurance covers.
